Tất cả dịch vụ điện toán đám mây công cộng được xây dựng dựa trên cùng một khái niệm về cơ sở hạ tầng lưu trữ và xử lý dữ liệu và tài nguyên từ xa cung cấp bởi các máy chủ đặt trong trung tâm dữ liệu. Các dịch vụ điện toán đám mây được sắp xếp theo mô hình kim tự tháp gồm ba lớp với cùng cấu trúc xây dựng. Các lớp dưới rộng hơn thể hiện tính linh hoạt, khả năng tùy chỉnh và phạm vi ứng dụng lớn, trong khi các lớp trên được xây dựng hẹp hơn với tính chất chuyên biệt để giải quyết các bài toán và nhu cầu cụ thể của người sử dụng.
Cơ sở hạ tầng dưới dạng dịch vụ (IaaS): Cung cấp cơ sở hạ tầng ảo hóa toàn diện bao gồm máy chủ, không gian lưu trữ dữ liệu, biện pháp bảo mật... cho phép người dùng toàn quyền xây dựng và tùy chỉnh tài nguyên ảo hóa để phù hợp với nhu cầu sử dụng, đồng thời chỉ cần chi trả cho phần tài nguyên tương ứng họ đã dùng. Nhà cung cấp sẽ quản lý và duy trì cơ sở hạ tầng vật lý.
Nền tảng dưới dạng dịch vụ (PaaS): Giúp người dùng tập trung vào việc triển khai cũng như quản lý các ứng dụng của họ. Tương tự IaaS, người dùng không cần quan tâm về việc duy trì cơ sở hạ tầng vật lý. Tuy nhiên, PaaS cung cấp thêm các công cụ cần thiết như hệ điều hành, phần mềm trung gian nhằm giúp người dùng phát triển các sản phẩm của họ.
Phần mềm dưới dạng dịch vụ (SaaS): Đây là dịch vụ quen thuộc với đa số mọi người, một giải pháp phần mềm hoàn chỉnh. Mô hình này được đóng gói và cung cấp trực tiếp đến người dùng cuối thông qua Internet, đa dạng về phương thức và nền tảng truy cập. Mỗi ứng dụng được xây dựng nhằm giải quyết một nhu cầu cụ thể, chuyên biệt.

All public cloud services are built around the same concept of remote resource and data processing and storage infrastructure provided by servers located in the data center. Cloud computing services are arranged in a pyramid model of three layers with the same building structure. The lower layers offer flexibility, customization, and wide range of applications, while the upper layers are built narrowly with specialized nature to solve specific problems.
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): Provide a comprehensive virtualization infrastructure including servers, data storage space, security measures... allowing users to have full control over building and customize virtualized resources to fit their needs, and only need to pay for the corresponding resource they used. The provider will manage and maintain the physical infrastructure.
Platform as a Service (PaaS): Helps users focus on deploying and managing their applications. Similar to IaaS, users do not need to care about maintaining the physical infrastructure. However, PaaS provides additional necessary tools such as operating system, middleware to help users develop their products.
Software as a Service (SaaS): This is a service familiar to most people, a complete software solution. This model is packaged and delivered directly to end users via the Internet, with a variety of access methods and platforms. Each app is built to address a specific, specialized need.
